With the release of Windows 10 last week, we have been asked countless times whether or not it is worth upgrading. It is not a simple yes or no to the masses, but more of a case-by-case basis.
For purposes of this article, we have determined 3 user groups: Windows 7 users, Windows 8 users, Enterprise users.
For users on Windows 7: if like most users, Windows 7 is the best bet for you. Everything works great. If you like the newest and the greatest, Windows 10 is for you. There are plenty of new features that you would enjoy. Note that if you use the free upgrade, your updates will be pushed automatically. You can not choose which updates to install or not install.
For Windows 8/8.1 users: 90% of all users should upgrade. Again, if you like to check your updates before installing them, you may want to hold off. If you automatically install updates, Windows 10 is a great solution. It has many upgrades and improvements over Windows 8 – especially getting rid of the “Metro Start Screen”.
For Enterprise users: Windows 10 WILL be a great solution. EthernetGeeks recommends waiting a couple weeks before making the switch. There is not a free upgrade for enterprise edition users, and there is not the restriction of forcing automatic updates either. If you are running Windows 7/8/8.1 Pro, you will get the pro version with the free upgrade. We urge enterprise users to plan the deployment, and do not update all your machines without a fallback plan, and testing. We have trained Microsoft certified members of staff that can help, or take care of the process for you.
At EthernetGeeks, we provide IT services for companies big and small in the Ventura County and Los Angeles County. If you have any questions whether Windows 10 is a good fit for you, or any other technology related questions or problems, please contact us. We are happy to help!
